Noss on Dart Marina update 2024
Written by Bryant | 25th Jul 2024
I am berthed at Noss on Dart Marina in Dartmouth on a downstream berth and recently we have had a few visitors who are unfamiliar with the strong ebb tides that flow through the marina berths and who end up pinned broadside against the pontoons and our boats. Some boats have been damaged. I wonder if you might include some advice in the next update of your website that there are strong ebb flows especially at springs that are wonderful to ferry glide against into an upstream berth but also highly unsuitable to consider berthing downstream with. Care needs to be taken when navigating the fairways to ensure you never go broadside to the stream.

Noss is developing into a wonderful marina. The facilities are simply lovely and I can quite happily spend more than usual time showering unlike many other marina facilities. On a cold morning they are hard to vacate. Underfloor heating, heated mirrors and a fantastic ventilation system makes them a pleasure to use. The upstairs berth holders lounge with panoramic views up and down the river is a good space to chill on wet days and ideal for yoga or stretches in the morning. We are still waiting for the coffee shop to open, mid August is the target now, and the construction of the hotel and 40 odd apartments is ongoing and can be dusty at times. We wait to see how this will upset the tranquillity when they are opened at the end of 2025. A proper ferry service into Dartmouth from the marina will be operating then too although I enjoy the walk to Kingswear and back across the lower and upper ferries.

I hope you find this useful.

Info from John...Thanks !
Stayed at Dart Haven for a night in 3rd week of April
Written by Chris99 | 29th Apr 2024
Paid £59.64 for a 10.5m boat including harbour dues and electricity. We were on a visitor berth which have limited availability but were given a berth number if they were full.

The facilities were undergoing refurbishment so shower and toilets were portaloos.

The Steam Packet Inn just up the road is a lovely traditional pub with pretty good food and there's a little shop over the railway bridge for supplies. It was a little disorganised and took maybe 15 minutes to open, but there's a good cafe next door.

It's a lovely place to stay and one of the prettiest locations we've visited.

Update April 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 12th Apr 2022
I reviewed these notes in the spring of 2022. The installation of a new pontoon layout at Noss Marine is complete and the work-in-progress buoyage has been removed. We have asked for a chart of the new layout. The two buoys mentioned below up river from Noss are now on the UKHO charts. Some prices have changed but Dart Haven Marina has kept theirs at the 2021 level.
Dittisham buoys and steam packet inn
Written by Conrad ryle | 6th Jul 2021
The visitors buoys at Dittisham are white and marked 'visitor'. There are around 15 of them, they have a range on maximum permitted lengths, ranging from 8 to 12 metres. Up to 3 boats can be rafted together.

I don't think the steam Packet inn is geared up for alongside mooring I would certainly advise contacting them before turning up.

All the way to Totnes
Written by Tyro Sailor | 30th Mar 2021
A shoal-draught boat can make it right up to Totnes on the tide, taking at least a couple of hours of gentle motoring.

The place to go is Baltic Wharf on the right bank of the river i.e. your port side as you head upstream. The pontoon there is long enough for two of the sort of boats that can venture up there, but the bottom at the upstream end (if you see what I mean) slopes away markedly. No rafting either, as rocks abound just over a boat's width away.

Phone up first and be prepared for unnecessarily detailed directions to get there, depending on which of the helpful ladies is on duty. There's a loo, a shower and even a kitchen available for use. Small chandlery also selling confectionery and ice cream. When I visited there was enough space in the bottom of the freezer to freeze a four-litre ice cream tub full of water which later cooled my cold-box.
But there are at least a couple of excellent home-made ice cream shops in town, along with pubs (try the Barrel House at the top of the hill), hotels, a mediaeval castle and a modern Morrison's.

There are also various possible anchorages further down the river if you prefer seclusion and don't mind drying out. Just make sure you won't swing into the channel or you might get an unpleasant surprise from a trip boat.

UPDATE SPRING 2021
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 29th Mar 2021
I reviewed these note at the end of March 2021. The biggest change is the regeneration of Noss Marina which is closed to visitors until later in the summer when, it is hoped that the main work is finished. Until then there is extra yellow buoyage around their marina which is shown on the chartlet in the Berthing section. The two extra buoys mentioned in the Have Your Say is way up river and of interest only if you are going up beyond Dittisham. Prices have changed but are still quoted by the marinas without harbour dues and need to be added on.
Chandlery in Dartmouth town
Written by Tidal Tim | 27th Mar 2021
The Chandlery in the town has closed up and gone. That leaves only Darthaven to choose from. They are well stocked and helpful in there but watch the prices.
The big DA pontoon to the north of the town quay is now 'walk ashore' if you like that facility but it is only available for small and medium sized boats (12 m max).
Noss(Premier Marinas) now sells Calor and Camping gas.

The harbour notes for Dartmouth were updated on 24th January 2013. The only changes were to the prices which were updated where known. Tom Webb, around Britain on a 21' Beneteau 2011
Written by Tom Webb Sailing | 31st Oct 2011
29/8 – Dartmouth – Darmtmouth is breath taking much the same as Plymouth, there is beautiful surrounding hills scattered with oddly coloured house that over-look the entrance, There is a fuel barge near the marina and the visitors pontoon is the first pontoon you get to before the marina, the staff were okay but the location of the marina makes it a great place to visit.
