See our note in the Facilities section re boat launching. The slip at the root of the South Pier is not used for this purpose and there is an "official" launching sight along the South Beach

I reviewed these notes in June 2022. No changes apart from the block of flats mentioned below.
New Landmark
Written by JerryG | 14th Jun 2021
There is a new block of flats being built behind the harbour: hideously out of character. However it now provides an excellent means of locating the position of the harbour when approaching from the south. A big square block, it towers above the surroundings.

I reviewed these notes in May 2021. There are no changes, not even the prices!

UP DATE MARCH 2017
Written by Don Thomson | 29th Mar 2017
These notes were reviewed by Don in March 2017. The pontoons are a fact of life here now, although they still do not appear on the Admiralty charts. Their charges will go up 3% across the board. I have drawn their attention to the apparent anomaly in their harbour entrance signals ie green light when there is less than 9m and red light when there is more than 9m but they say that is correct?

By Don T (Ed) We've added the Harbour Signals to the Approach Section
Update 2015

These notes were updated by Don in March 2015. Nothing has changed except that the new marina developments have been shelved indefinitely so we've removed that pipe dream from our gallery
Or you could anchor.

The tide was wrong and it was getting late. I did try anchoring of the South Landing but it was uncomfortable. So I tucked right into the corner of the bay north of the harbour inside the sailing marks. What a peaceful night, so well sheltered from the north winds. The bustle of the town could be heard but everything settled down for the night. A splendid anchorage in winds from the west round to north with hardly a popple on the surface.

Update 2013
Written by dononshytalk | 16th Apr 2013
These notes were updated by Don T on the 16th April 2013. Those of you who are waiting for the big new marina will have to wait for quite a bit longer; work on that is on hold for the moment but they have installed new, serviced pontoons where the old cradles were. Prices have been updated and the rest is much as before.
