Mill Rythe
Written by Tyro Sailor | 18th Oct 2023
A mile or so up the Emsworth Channel, on the western side is a small port hand buoy. Go round this, turn W, not too close to the E cardinal post and enter the narrow, shallow (the entrance dries) channel. Inside you will find a row of mooring buoys, probably some unoccupied, a little space to anchor and probably seclusion. So don't tell anybody.
Update March 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 22nd Mar 2022
I reviewed these notes in March 2022. Only change is to prices. Read Tyro's notes below for accessing Emsworth - it is not a "follow your nose" passage. Suggest you download this section (see "download to PDF" top right) for use off-line. The Emsworth Marina plan is in our Nav images and the visitors berth is labelled in that as such. I have uploaded a further image showing the route in around the trees
Emsworth - complicated and friendly
Written by Tyro Sailor | 24th Aug 2021
I visited Emsworth Yacht Harbour in August 2021. Once I'd slogged my way up the deep, wide channel and waited an hour for the tide (on a mooring) I found the route up to the harbour quite complicated, not quite sure which side of the many mooring trots to pass. But if there's enough water to get over the marina sill I don't think it matters a great deal. The tide gauge on the way in is useful, and those at the entrance very much so, as they show actual depth over the sill, which is what you need to know.
Inside is also complicated as the pontoons stick out all over the place. Turning left (leave A-pontoon to port) then right from the entrance brings you to two or three dedicated and labelled visitors' berths, close to the office, heads etc. They're shown in the Marina Guide chartlet as 'Tarquin Yachts'. Port side to. Far better to use these than B-pontoon, especially the odd numbers. Completely sheltered.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the heads and showers excellent. The town centre, with a Co-op, good hardware shop, lots of pubs and a v good Bangladeshi restaurant, is ten minutes' interesting walk away. Past the boat lift, through the black gate, turn left and leave the large millpond to starboard; turn left along the High Street leaving the Lord Raglan close to port. Or pay him a visit....

Contact Emsworth Yacht Harbour

EYH no longer operate a VHF service on Channel 80 so if planning a visit, remember your mobile and make sure it's charged. 01243 377727 is the number to call, Staff here very helpful and friendly. It's set in picturesque surroundings, teeming with bird-life as is the rest of Chichester Harbour. Some good on-site facilities and services too. I am so taken with it I have just brought my boat round permanently. Highly recommended. Only downside is it's quite tidal. For a boat drawing 1 metre you'll only get over the cill about 2 hours either side of HW. Definitely worth the visit though.

Day rates for visitors to Emsworth Yacht Harbour include harbour dues. This may well be true for other marinas too. Best to check when paying.
