Update May 2022
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 18th May 2022
I reviewed these notes in mid May 2022. I've added Mark's information on Tower bridge verbatim - many thanks. For the rest, I've updated the information on the Greenwich Yacht Club courtesy of their Cruising Secretary, added a warning re the possibility of weed in Limehouse and updated prices throughout.
Tower Bridge will open for you - free of charge

I have spent 6 months in St Katharine Docks (not St Katherine's Dock!) and it is fantastic. Friendly staff and superb facilities.

One of the best things is motoring under Tower Bridge - it will open for you - and it is completely free! If your mast is over 9 metres high, you simply email [email protected] and request a lift at least 24 hours ahead. It will open for you every 30 minutes, so you can go upstream, enjoy the sights in the Pool of London above the bridge (HMS Belfast, The Tower of London etc) and 30 minutes later come back under the opened bridge. All controlled on VHF 14 Tower Bridge Radio.

Another tip - tell VTS of your passage plan on 14 - they appreciate it.... but make it snappy, it is very busy with traffic! Mark
UPDATE SPRING 2021
Written by Don Thomson 3 | 25th Mar 2021
I reviewed these notes in March 2021. The main change is the opening of Limehouse basin for visitor moorings but you need to pre-book. Everywhere has their own interpretation of the Covid rules so check ahead that your interpretation matches theirs. Prices have increased across the board.

Limehouse Marina is in new hands and is, indeed, open to visitors. Details are now in the text above
Limehouse Marina floating seaweed problems.
Written by kadel | 23rd Sep 2019
Check your filters before and after you have left Limehouse Marina as the floating seaweed is clogging the water intake filters as a few yachts have found out after leaving. I believe this seaweed is coming from the canals.
Why stop at London Bridge?

The Port of London ends at Teddington Lock. It would surely make more sense if the area upstream of the Barrier should start at Teddington, not Tower Bridge.

Limehouse marina overnight visitor moorings
Written by rshepherd | 11th Jun 2018
I have just booked two nights visitor berth for 37 foot motor cruiser, overnighted here this time last year , They still offer visitor moorings , paid in advance via online payment portal. No water or electric on visitor dock wall. Its about the only marina on the thames that has 4hrs either side of hw for locking in/out, st kats is 11/2 hrs !

UPDATE SPRING 2018
Written by Don Thomson | 4th Apr 2018
The basics remain the same though prices have been increased (or will be) across the board. As far as I can ascertain there has been no increase in the facilities here although we are still trying to find out if the Greenwich Yacht Club has laid some more moorings for visitors

Update April 2014
Written by dononshytalk | 18th Apr 2014
These notes were reviewed in April 2014. Most of the marinas have refurbished/improved their facilities ashore and have increased their prices by a bit for inflation.
